The File Allocation Table (FAT) file system was created as a way to store data on computer disk drives. This was created at a time when hard drives were a luxury rather than a necessity. Now, with the increasing size of hard drives, this method for storing data has reached a maximum capacity, 2 gigabytes. The release of Windows 98 brings an enhancement to the FAT16 system - FAT32. It allows you to format up to 2 terabytes (2,000 GigaBytes) as a singe drive. Also, the FAT32 system uses disk space more efficiently. Hard drives store data in small chunks called sectors and clusters. FAT32 will give you about 25 percent more space to save your programs. If you buy one of these nice 8 gigabyte drives, you will have to set it up as 4 separate drives, each 2 gigabytes in size...hmm...now where is that file, drive C, drive D, drive F?
